Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's death the family, it was managed by her grandmother, mom and godparents. While she was a small girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessional disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word association. Ford started acting in her teens, and was a member of the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that this was not the best venue for her. Ford decided to apply to Central School of Speech and Drama and securing a place after her third try she applied for and was awarded acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor was later to play recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford earned her bachelor's degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut when she appeared as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1990. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in a variety of television programs including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. The stage was her main focus as well as a part of The Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, that were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
